I’m so glad you’re here!
My name is Kristen Stuertz and I’m the creator of the home decor and lifestyle blog, Ballgown With A Coffee Stain. I’m an eternal nester, interior design lover, and an unequivocal failure at being a perfectionist. I’m a former Montessori Teacher, who recently hung up her apron (yes, we wear aprons), to pursue my passion for all things home decor and interior design. I’m just your average girl who dreams of a home filled with chinoiserie, French country decor, and a touch of whimsy. Although I don’t have any formal training for interior design, I’m on a quest to learn everything I possibly can. What better way to gain knowledge and experience than to throw yourself in there and start creating! This blog chronicles the highs and lows of my decor journey, utilizing the canvas I already own…my home!
I’m married to a very indulging and supportive husband. We met at work in 2007, had our first date a year later, and have been together ever since. He has had enough faith in me to let me make some very questionable choices with our home. Thankfully, his “happy wife, happy life” approach provided me the opportunity to learn and improve my design skills. Together we share our two beautiful and very precocious girls ages eight and ten. We’ve also recently added one fluffy puppy to our family. Both of my girls share my love for creativity. They definitely have a style very much apart from my own, but I love that about them! It’s wonderful to see them develop their own sense of style, taste, and individuality!
Like all mothers, the day my girls were born I was hooked. When they were little and we enrolled them in Montessori, I enrolled myself in the teacher program so I could be right there with them in school. My life involved chasing after naked tushies, cleaning up after art “bombs”, bedtime stories, hours of snuggles, and thousands of precious hugs and kisses. Now that my girls are older and more independent, I am excited to have more time to indulge in some of my own interests. My husband and girls my biggest supporters. I hope from my example they learn the importance of pursuing your passions!
In the Summer of 2015, we moved our family from California to Idaho. The first time I laid eyes on the little blue Neo-Victorian, I knew it had potential to become our dream home! Built in 2003, it was definitely ready for some updates on the interior. Visions of the picture perfect homes from every Nancy Meyers movies floated around in my head.
Six years after moving in and I still have a LOT of work on my hands! Although my home is still nowhere near a Nancy Meyers film, I still dream that some day it will be. I find so much joy in the process. I love the challenge that having a budget brings me. I appreciate that waiting for things I want usually gives me time to discover what I truly love. And, I love that I can share my home design journey with you! Because, let’s face it…for the majority of us, creating the “perfect” home is simply an illusion. It’s all about the process. A slow marathon that evolves a house into a home. And I don’t want that journey to end. So I’m going to make it last as long as I can!
